In Love
Celebrating the Seasons of Intimate Relationship

About In Love

This work is organized according to the Five Elements of holistic medicine, representing wholeheartedness. It chronicles all the seasons of loving: from new beginnings into grounded and enduring care, through endings and into rebirth, always emerging with greater wisdom, wholeheartedness, and richness. The poems convey the reverie, conflict, sexual ecstasy, grief, reflection and moments of deep praise and ineffable gratitude for the depths of this experience we know as love. An essay, “Love’s Rites,” book-ends the collection and summarizes the exploration of the poems.

My personal note: After completing this collection, I am proud of these poems and feel satisfied with their quality and breadth of experience they convey, which, if you’ve endured the throes of loving, will likely speak deeply to your own experience, and maybe even shed some light on it.

About Nature of the Heart

Nature of the Heart is my first collection of poems and catalogs awakening to a larger life through heartache and creativity vis a vis the abiding gifts and metaphors of the natural world and the uncompromising voice and directive of our deepest callings. This collection is organized according to the Five Elements of holistic medicine and the poems convey the feeling tone and the unique ontological essence that is each of the Elements. The amazing tool/lens of the Five Elements as a model of wholeness, richness, and depth is explained in the Preface to the Poems, while the Introduction conveys the context of the period during which I wrote these songs.

At the back of the book are 5 High-quality reproductions (one for each of the 5 Elements) of my hand-crafted and calligraphy art-work, which can be removed and framed, appreciated on an altar, used as a place mat or coaster, or posted on the refrigerator.

My personal note: This collection is most dear to my heart because it contains many of the poems that helped me through the greatest healing I know during my years in body-centered therapy work in Los Angeles, from which I emerged a changed man. These poems will speak to you if you are in the throes of transition and deep healing, or if you want to catalyze such a transformation.

Listen to me recite two poems from this collection: Waterboat & Prayer Seed.
